The modular bridges from Waagner Biro Bridge Systesms are a versatile and extendable building block system individually adaptable to special customer requests. Waagner Biro Bridge Systems is among the internationally most renowned providers of system bridges. The modular concept offers all the advantages of modern bridge construction and an extremely high degree of flexibility as regards bridge width, open span and load - enabling us to meet the customers‘ requirements applicable in different countries. Modular bridges are above all used as permanent and semi-permanent bridging of valleys and rivers.
Application / Handling The bridge units can be assembled with the simplest means by local unskilled workers. The open spans are usually from 35 to 60m with a normal interval increment of 5m. Bridge spans of up to 120m have already been achieved in modular construction. The bridge widths vary between 4m for a single-lane and 7.3m for a two-lane carriageway. At the customer’s request, multiple-lane modular bridges could be offered as well. The walkways have a standard width of approx. 0.7 m. Several individual bridges can easily be combined into multiple span bridges. The construction elements of the system bridges are generally supplied galvanised. The carriageways can be made of steel, concrete and/or wood, and fitted with rails. The construction parts are only bolted together at the building site, so that no welding work is necessary. The system bridges can thus be dismantled and rebuilt elsewhere.
ADVANTAGES • Fast availability • Short assembly time • Easy transportation of the modules • Standardised, compact construction elements which are interchangeable • Suitable for every kind of road traffic (also multiple-lane) and for railway traffic • Assembly possible with untrained unskilled workers, under the supervision of Waagner-Biro experts • Low unit weights of the bridge parts • Low dead load due to high-strength steel • Different static systems possible (singlespan girder, continuous beam girder) • High fatigue strength due to fatigue resistant construction • Optimal protection against corrosion, due to galvanising • No welding work on the building site, high-strength bolts instead • Low maintenance and servicing costs • Simple, low-maintenance and replaceable elastomeric bearings
